The UK government announced another delay in imposing its full post-Brexit import controls on goods from the EU, now to the end of 2023. Therefore, companies can halt their preparations of Border Operating Model (BOM) Phase 3, which was planned for July 2022, as the UK plans to issue a new target operating model during Q4 this year. BOM Phase 3 was proposed to implement new requirements to border controls as follows:
- Security and safety declarations on imports from the EU;
- Health certification and Sanitary and Phytosanitary (SPS) checks on import from the EU, including SPS checks on EU imports that are currently at destination to be moved to Border Control Post (BCP);
- Restrictions and prohibitions on EU chilled meats imports.
With the delay of border controls on EU imports, companies are prevented from border delays and increased compliance costs as well as ensuring goods from the EU remain accessible and competitive in the UK.
